SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY II
This is a call to the people of our beloved nation, Trinidad & Tobago, to wake up from their slumber. It’s a call for us to move from our short-term memories to our long-term memories in the face of another elections season. We need to recall the phases and the players in our nation’s political history along with the promises that were made, our decisions, the results and the consequences of how we allowed ourselves to be swayed which influenced our votes on way or another. For those of us who may be too young and unaware I admonish you to research your national history now.
We need to remember what was the cause of the Black Power Movement, the players that were involved and where that led us as a nation. We need to recall who the key players were in the 1970 Revolution and find out what were their true motives by fast-forwarding to the 1990 attempted coup. We need to remember who were the personalities of the day, both in government as well as involved in the 1990 coup attempt and trace their affiliations to each other which in some cases were established way before 1970. We need to remember who were the personalities that were the allies to the one who was willing to (and did) “sleep with the devil” to gain leadership of this nation. We must bring back to memory who was the party that said, “Vote for us and we will eliminate crime” and the results and consequences we suffered as a nation.
This is a time to reflect on how a once “rising and risen sun” became quickly darkened by its own dark cloudy elements, leading to a burnt out dying entity that once had fierce, fiery energy and power. We need to pay attention to the personalities that not only have a very contrary agenda and an undesirable value system for our nation, but are geared to playing games with gender, women’s rights and morality in our nation. Now is the time to have a 20/20 vision and just projections towards a 20/20 vision. Make sure that you understand what is developing in our nation this moment as you read these very words I’ve written.
Trinidad & Tobago this your wake up call! Are we going to sleep with the enemy twice? We shook hands with devil when the votes went 17:17:2. The ones with the “2” wanted power again too so they danced with the devil too. And what good did it do? More crime and an attempted coup! Now the “sister of that devil’s agent” wants to lie in bed with you (this nation). What are you going to do? Yes, there’s corruption on all sides. But that is no excuse to refrain from performing our civil right and duty in relation to governance of our country. Rise up and wise up. Let’s act responsibly! When the platforms go up and the mud really starts slinging ensure that you are not just “playing in the mud” too. Is the satisfaction of moving someone from office sufficient reason to endow one with authority and power? What about a cohesive, sensible and fair plan of progression for this nation? Is “party politics” and tradition the all in all? Or should change be requested and made where and when necessary? Do we need a female leader more than we need a leader with vision and integrity and a plan? Do we just want promises or evidence of good intentions? Trinbago, I put it to you, let the coming elections not be a case of “Sleeping WithThe Enemy II”.
